Can you transfer credits from institutions outside of Canada?

Transfer credits are a great way of reducing the time that a student needs to spend towards the completion of a degree. Acsenda allows students to transfer credits from other post-secondary institutions within or outside of Canada in order to ease the accessibility of moving between the different institutions and eradicate geographical boundaries for students coming from other countries.

Acsenda is a member of the British Columbia Council of Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT) which helps to maintain the quality of the transfer system and guarantees the utility and mobility of credits by providing resources. The BCCAT is also in control as the manager of the BC Transfer System which establishes that students that gain transfer credit for equivalent learning can apply that credit to complete credential requisites.

How does the credit transfer work?

Acsenda is authorized to participate in the BC Transfer System to offer degrees or other programs, and it also offers academic transfer pathways that students can use at the moment of changing from institutions.

Transfer credit will usually be given for a course where Acsenda offers a similar or parallel course for the most part with similar content. Remember to check program courses and course outlines in order to see if the course you want to transfer has a reasonably similar level because not all the courses are eligible for transfer credit.

The categories of transfer credit are:

• Assigned credits: These credits are granted for courses with content similar to courses offered by Acsenda.

• Unassigned credits: These credits are granted where course-to-course equivalences cannot be established. They can be granted as electives or certain academic requirements for the degree.

• Block Transfer Credit: These credits are granted to students who have successfully completed a certificate diploma, or blocks of courses earned through a previous degree or part of a degree program that may be accepted towards an Acsenda degree requirement.

For credit transfer at Acsenda, a minimum course grade of C (60%) or equivalent is required. Once a credit transfer is approved it cannot be used for other courses.

Applicants looking for transfer credit must submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended to the Registrar's office. If you want to transfer credit from an institution where the main language of instruction is not English, you would need to officially translate the transcripts and course descriptions.

How does Acsenda assess credits?

Credits may be granted by the Registrar's office, based on the agreements and the policies of Transfer Credit. If for any circumstance credits are not evaluated by them, then requests will be referred to the Dean of the program. The list of acceptable transfer courses from other post-secondary institutions in British Columbia can be found on the BCCAT website.

Transfer credit awarded will be included in the credit earned toward a degree and entered as such on the transcript of academic record for Acsenda. This type of notification has to be in writing to the student’s address of record. If the Registrar denies transfer credit, reasons for refusal shall be provided to the student. Also, grades for transfer credit will not appear on the Acsenda transcripts nor in the calculation of the GPA at the end of the program.
