Canada removes pre-entry requirements for vaccinated travelers
Effective April 1, Canada has removed pre-entry requirements for fully vaccinated travelers that have received at least two doses of the accepted vaccines by the Government of Canada.
This means that fully vaccinated travelers will no longer have the requirement to provide a pre-entry COVID-19 test result to enter Canada. However, travelers coming to Canada may be selected at random on arrival to take a COVID-19 molecular test. Travelers who are randomly tested do not need to quarantine while waiting for the result.
Who does not apply for the pre-entry requirements?
Partially and unvaccinated travelers do not meet the 'fully vaccinated' requirement, for that reason they need to continue to follow the mandatory pre-entry requirements and show proof of the following:
Valid negative antigen test, administered by an official and authorized laboratory
Valid negative molecular tests taken no more than 72 hours before the scheduled flight departure time or the arrival at the land border
Previous positive molecular tests taken at least 10 days and no more than 180 days before the scheduled flight departure time or arrival at the land border. Keep in mind that positive antigen results will not be valid.
Every traveler despite their situation, exemptions, or status is required to submit their information in the ArriveCAN app before coming to Canada. Travelers who do not complete their information on the ArriveCAN app might be required to take a COVID-19 test on arrival and quarantine for a period of 14 days, regardless of their vaccination status.
What are some things to keep in mind before your flight to Canada?
Check if you are eligible to enter Canada with the assessment tool that the government offers. Review if you meet all the entry requirements before your flight. Keep in mind that provinces have their own guidelines.
Submit your information and proof of vaccination to the ArriveCAN (app or website) before arriving in Canada.
Ensure you will have access to healthcare services in case of necessary medical treatment.
Before coming to Canada, check frequently the changes in restrictions, entry requirements, vaccinations, and exemptions for travel situations because they can technically change at any moment.
